And the king bowed himself upon the bed" (1Kings 1:47). "God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and makehis throne greater than thy throne. Our goal for our children should be,that they will be far better Christians than we have been. We should desire good baby names for our tiny custodial dependents- depicting thebest motives for the best life lessons- "names are in theBook of Life" (Philippians4:3). "Thy Name,O LORD, endureth for ever and Thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations" (Psalm 135:13).
"Thedesire of our soul is to Thy Name, and to the remembrance of Thee" (Isaiah 26:8).
Christians should wish to have children to keep their LORD's "Name in remembrance" (18:18)- both now and forever. People most oftenwish to have a "son to keep name in remembrance" (2Samuel 18:18). "The life which I now live in the flesh I live by thefaith of the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). Our children, as namesakes of these Championsof the Faith, will become our daily reminders to "followrighteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the LORDout of a pure heart" (2Timothy2:22) - making us more like our Saviour. There iseven a side benefit for ourselves. "Mercy and Truthshall be to them that devise good" (Proverbs 14:22). We devise with the LORD that our childrenpattern their moral characters after the Christian traits exemplified in the heroeswe named them after. We demonstrate our fervent desire that our children be members of this same SpiritualFamily, "for Thy City and Thy People arecalled by Thy Name" (Daniel9:19). " 14 Forthis cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, 15 ofWhom the whole family in Heaven and Earth is named" (Ephesians 3:14-15). Their babynames should deliberately manifest our need to have our children linked in kinshipto our LORD and our Heavenly Family. We bless our children by naming them afterthe dear Saints of the LORD, for "thememory of the Just is blessed" (Proverbs 10:7).
(1Corinthians 11:1) "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.". (Philippians 4:9) "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.". "For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my belovedson, and faithful in the LORD, who shall bring you into remembrance of my Ways whichbe in Christ, as I teach every where in every church" (1Corinthians 4:17). But we also have the faithful Body of Christ to help us- membersof our Spiritual Family to nurture us in the Ways of the Word. And we have the Holy Spirit, Who "shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance" (John 14:26). Welive Christ's Example because of the Father's workmanship in us "to be conformed to the image of His Son" (Romans 8:29). "By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice thanCain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:and by it he being dead yet speaketh" (Hebrews11:4). įten in our hurried day, we forget to apply the wealth of Christianexample that has been laid up for us by the departed Saints. "Brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are ofgood report if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8). "Brethren, be followerstogether of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample" (Philippians 3:17). And thereis great joy found in the heart of God when His children name their children withGodly intent. Several "good" baby names will be suggested here, in examples of a Biblestudy method which includes Biblical content (on why the LORD has called these Saints "good" ),and with Promises that are related to these Saints (Promises which can be claimedfor your own children who are the namesakes of these Precious Saints). He purpose of this article is not to give a comprehensive listof names found in the Bible, but to encourage Christian parents to choose baby namesthat will nourish faith, both in them and in their children, because "a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches" (Proverbs 22:1). "A good name is rather to be chosen thangreat riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold" Or, The Virtues in Choosing a Good Baby Name
